OT: 30-06 rifle question

I bought a Ruger 30-06 rifle 5 years ago and I have never fired it. I was going to fire it today for the first time and looked at the end of the barrel, The end of a 30-06 bullet will not fully fit in the end of the barrel. Should I have the rifle barrel looked at before I shoot it? The barrel looks like .010" of an inch needs to be reamed from the inside of the bore.
(fill me in here is this normal?)
