For cutting once the metal is up to temp. You can pretty much shut off the acetylene or LP and keep cutting.
For welding or brazing acetylene wins hands down.
For general heating I use a plain cheap Benzo-Matic Turbo something or other torch with a 3 ft hose. Uses no O2 tank and just a BBQ LP tank. Cheap heat for pre-heating welding jobs, soldering, melting ice, heating some rusty stuck nuts/bolts etc.
As for myself? A proper Oxy-Acetylene torque and the El-Cheapo Benzo-Matic LP torch.
LP and oxygen only? Good but not great.
