The gas cap has a vent built into it. Could be plugged or not working, and after the engine runs a bit, its creates a vacuum in the tank, and can no longer pump and supply fuel. try loosening the cap and see how long it runs. If you loosen it immediately after it stops, you may here a hissing noise as you loosen it. This is a definite sign the vent in the cap is no longer working.
