I just went through similiar problem with D17 I've been using to move fill. Brake went rather quickly and took drum and all. Parts were around $750 bucks. I had shop lift and such so could do the job myself. Not hard technically, just heavy having to remove axle housing and all. Not familiar with D15; but, think it is very close to 17 and really no way to fully inspect without tearing it apart. Hate to guess what labor would cost for such a job.
