Bill, I assume that the 555 has a JD 382 , I know the 55 does . You are right the parts supply is quite limited . Those are one of my favorite engines to work on , I have several ,but mine are the hopped up model having a lanchester balancer in the crankcase and a roosa master fuel system driving from where the distributor would mount on a gas model . I build or modify other parts to keep them running . I use case rod bearings for rod brgs, have to hone .025 out of the rod and narrow the brg about .100 , works well. Also make mains from other brgs ( large MM rod brgs), piston pin and pin bushing are from 4.5 inch cat engine. I put GI's in the ring grooves and bore and install dry sleeves in the wet sleeves . Oil pump is mounted on the balancer and are prone to wear as the balancer bushings wear and none to be had. I use 6.2 chevy oil pumps and mount them on the end of the balancer , make more oil pressure than it had when new. In your situation , I would pull the pan to check the brgs , the rest of the engine will probably run a long time . holler if you need help. george

As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
