A couple other two related reasons... It's much tougher to steal digital cable (unlike basic analog cable). So in addition to bandwidth gains, they like that. Eventually you'll also see the advertisers liking it as the set top boxes report back what you're watching minute by minute, like some of the digital video recorders do now. And they'll probably sign you up to a 1 or 2 year contract...to keep you from switching back to the telephone company if they offer a better deal.
