Years ago I actually built small trailers for a second job. Here is what I do for light duty trailers. Cut 2 pieces of angle 5 feet long for the toung material. The first cross member is located 2 feet from the front of the trailer. Therefor the location of the center of the ball to the front of the trailer is about 3 foot 3 inches.
