O/T Need Roofing Advice

Hey folks, sprung a leak around my chimney and kitchen exhaust vent last week during the storm. The roof, flashing and all the other stuff is in excellant shape, the water is finding a place to enter not visable to the eye. Today I picked up a can of Leak Stopper by Gardner, suppose to be a rubberized roof patch,thought I'd smear it around those areas and try to stop that dern leak. Is this good stuff, what do y'all reccomend. The roof is just standard shingles.
