This side of the pond we say shepherd, not sailor. But there again, we were well inland, as far as you can get in the UK. And while we are at it, why do we teach our kids that the sun "rises" or "sets", when we have known for a few hundred years that it is the Earth that is in motion relative to the stationary Sun?
