The vet don't do no magic, he just reaches in and "feels" for the calf. Something you could do at home if you knew what you were looking for. Like Pheasant said, punching the cow with your fist will find a calf 6 months or more along. Also once a cow is that close she will start showing other signs, If she is bred less than 6 months it's kinda hard for a layman to tell. How long ago was she bred?
