About 30 years ago, I purchased a piece of construction equipment in Edmonton. Got to the border and was informed that the import duty would be one half of the value. Had to have a lawyer to handle the paper work who happed to be very conveniently located at the border crossing. After looking in the law books, it was discovered that my machine, which was originally manufactured in the USA,was exempt. I was merely returning to
the USA with it! There was no duty required. Lawyer charged me $50!! Went out and got in my truck and came home. FAST!
