OT - Chimney repairs

My chimney is a 30 year old masonry type, with a 12x12 flue extending 18 inches above the surrounding brickworks. A few years back I used caulking to close up some of the cracks that had developed over the years. I'm now doing a proper repair by removing all the broken bricks, concrete, and the cracked flue that is exposed to the weather. How can I let the flue expand and contract and yet keep the water from seeping down beside the flue? Is there an expandable foam product that is waterproof as well as heat proof and will still work as in an expansion joint?
