George in Biloxi: corn stunted around the edges is from several things. 1. Too close to grass etc. in fencerow which sucks up more water. 2. Fertilizer and pre-emergence doesn't reach the outer rows. 3. The end rows get more compaction because of the turning around - used to be worse when we cultivated. 4. Bugs more diverse and more numbers along the edge and like fertilizer and pre-emergence, insecticieds often are not sprayed right to the edges.
