OT: 2000 GMC 2500 egt problem

Well let me start by saying i dont really belive in putting aftermarket parts on trucks that are used for heavy work. I use my GMC 2500 with a 6.0 gas for towing tractors to tractor pulls most of the time. I believe im having a problem with a really high EGT. I dont have a guage but while driving you can hear the heat shields popping like a tin can under the truck, sounds like its just going to explode someday. Now with that being said what can be done to lower the EGT? I was going to try running high grade pump gas but if that dont help what is my next option?
