Big Dean's help needed( PLEASE) RE:TO35 draft ctrl

My draft control lever is missing on my 1959 TO-35. I just installed a new internal Pump I can rotate the rod to adjust the draft but it doees not have any resistance or does not move the draft lever inside, I can easlt hlod the draft lever with my finger. What is the solution? Can you help? Thanks for your time
