Do you have the cam out, or is there slop between cam and crank gears? If the cam is still in, it could be something in the valve train also. Does it have the dynamic balance gears? Or possibly the crankshaft bearing? The balance gears, if you have them, run in needle bearings. The crank bearing should be a heavier ball bearing. At least it is in the bigger engines. Off the wall thought: loose flywheel?
