Our local fair has an attendance of about 80,000 over four days (not a typo in the attendance, at one point we were solidly #2 in the state, over the last decade we've dropped to #4 as a couple others nearer population centers came up in attendance significantly...and #1 Woodstock exploded in attendance).

My fire company's best fundraiser balancing net dollars and man-hours it takes is running most of the car parking concessions. (We have a golf tournament that is the best $$$ per man-hour, but a lot smaller gross)

I can sympthathize with the women in the bus.

Our fair now issues parking and gate passes to vendors and exhibitors, but their issued based on some formula they have to keep everybody and their brother from having passes.

We even need today to issue passes to those helping working our lots due to people in town who had a T-shirt with the fire company name on it using those to get in the gates for free.

While the majority of people are nice and friendly, there is a significant minority -- maybe 10%, though sometimes it seems like 20%, who believe the world evolves around them.

And they'll work the system to their advantage if they can, and even if they can't they don't mind pushing buttons to see if they can get special treatment other's don't.

The unfortunate consequence becomes you can't trust people at their word. Need a pass to park for free. Need a handicap sticker to be let into the handicap parking (we actually have to keep a rope across those lanes and drop it for individual cars...since people don't respect the signs.)

If there was a entrance or parking fee, the group putting it on should have distributed passes to the participants.
