your last shift in the trans is the locking torque converter, it does feel like a shift, I have a 94 Dodge with the Cummins, your problem could be the brake light switch under the dash, I have had this problem, The switch is adjustable, you have to push down on the brake pedal and then pull out on the switch a little,( it may pull a little hard a make a clicking sound) this will also make the cruse control not work,
