Renewing online also means you don't get a hardcopy. A virus can get into your AV and corrupt the passwords so that you cannot access your subscription updates. This happened to me once and Norton cheated me out of half of a year of subscription updates I'd paid for. I switched to McAfee at that point, and stayed with them for two years. My next AV will be either McAfee again or something else, but not Norton.
