A pellet gun won't do it. I had a raccoon visiting my cats and eating their cat food at night. After I caught him in the act one night (a coon eating cat food sounds louder than a cat, it's more like a dog eating cat food) I spent the next 3 nights out there, and drilled him with a 'high-powered' pellet rifle all 3 times at a range of about 17 feet. He was hurting, as evidenced by the piles of coon poop that accumulated (coons poop on things that cause them pain, as a signal to avoid it in the future.) But it didn't kill him. I had to go get a gun permit in order to buy a .22 rifle. One shot, one kill. In his frantic fleeing, he left a pretty good blood trail, but he didn't make it out of the building. Made it about 8 feet before everything went dark. I like the 22. Pellet gun only scared off the rabbits. One round with a 22 and the rabbit was suddenly a paraplegic, which made him easy prey for the cats. They liked it better that way because he was easy to catch, and they would rather eat prey that they kill. So that's how my cats celebrated the 4th--with a feast! Only things left were the 2 back feet.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
