If you consistantly get one pop when the ignition is turned off but have no spark at the plugs it is because the the pick up coil (Hall effect sensor) inside the distributor is bad. A common problem on GM cars and a cheap fix.
The pop occurs when ignition coil voltage collapses. The plugs fire in response to a PULSING voltage to the coil.
