I think it would provide some benefit, an extra barrier, but using #3's probably provides good aeration anyway. Being under a roof keeps an area dry but then you can get moisture migrating in from around the building footprint, I suppose and that is what I would think the moisture barrier would be helpful with controlling.

I was really curious, knowing the size of that stone, how do you keep all the chafe from choking up the annular space between the stone, which keeps the area aerated/ventillated ? Would seem that it would be real hard to clean, etc. and get loaded with chafe from the hay real quick,
