I don"t know if I"d call that tractor rare. But it is somewhat uncommon. Here in corn country anyway. A 1956 model 70 with manual steering and no live PTO is just not seen here. When farmers around here hung 4 and 6 row front mounted cultivators on these tractors, the first option they wanted was power steering. And these same tractors had very heavy 2 row mounted cornpickers installed in the fall. Then, the last thing they wanted was a tractor with no live PTO and no power steering! A corn picker used with a transmission driven PTO is a real pain to operate. These tractors were owned by the farmer in this area and operated by him and his kids. I think the stripped down models were a little more common down South were a lot of tractors were operated by hired labor (cotton plantations etc). In fact, I have never seen a 70 without live PTO.
