2003 Ford diesel

Any help on this would be appreciated. 2003 Ford Expedition with a diesel. Truck ran fine when parked,went to start it up next day and the engine runs but seems lazy and won't rev up when put in gear.Check engine light is on.I have a scanner,but don't have the cartridge for Ford diesels.Any ideas, crank sensor maybe? Thanks!
