If you don't have the time or energy just yet, then try the quick fix mentioned by RustyFarmall. You remove the sediment bowl from the gas tank and insert a rod surrounded by a small wire screen in the sediment bowl so that it sticks up inside the gas tank. The gas will go in at the top of the tube, this will leave a small layer of gas at the bottom of the tank that is unusable, which is where the rust settles. I did it on my tank last week and so far it is working great. (Thanks RustyFarmall). Of course this isn't a substitute of fixing it right, but it will buy you some time until you can find the time and energy to do all that shaking, or afford to pay some one to do it.
