I have one of these things that was VERY hard to start. What I did was mount a starter(need one with a long shaft when the bendix is removed). I mounted this starter with the back of the starter toward the front of the mower. I welded a tab on the front of the starter, and a tab on the center to match the frame.I added a pulley to the shaft in line with the pull pulley on the machine. Get a belt to fit the pulley's. when the motor startes flip the belt off with a stick, and you are on your way. Stan
