Do you have the correct (length) belt? You mean the belt from the engine to the deck, right? Is it a #46 mower? I don't have a diagram at hand, but it goes around the sheave on the engine, the flat backside of the belt runs against the flat idler, the "V" side of the belt runs in the "V"-shaped idlerer, then the belt loops around the sheave on the mover. Pretty basic. If you are going to keep it around, you need an owner's manual for the TRACTOR, AND the DECK. Check sources such as ebay, or get them direct from Deere by phoning 1-800-522-7448. They are a bit pricey, but INVALUABLE for safe operating and maintenance issues!
