The later statement about rules is correct. With antiques, it makes it easier to get into classes because not all have wide fronts. Some are hard to find. Also, if I was not concerned about turning sharp, I would use a wide front because it would probably be easier to turn.
The narrow front is also lighter allowing for more moveable weight, since most places pull with weighted classes. So, make the tractor weigh as little as it can by itself so it can get into the lighter class and be able to add weight to move up.
