If it were me I would set the timing with a good gun. I stress a good gun as they can be out.
It does not take much to be out and it can cause heat problems even if the tractor runs good.
I never trust my ear any more after I bought a good gun and found how far out my ear can be.
Now that's my ear. Maybe your ears are better than mine are. Just my suggestion.
