Sorry to hear about your pets. I lost my Dobie to bone cancer two years ago. He was only 7. He went to the vet every year for shots and was fed dog and people food. He was my best friend. Smarter than a lot of people. I could go on, but you get the idea. I think that it's simply genetics. Dobies, for example are prone to several diseases and cancers. Other dogs are suseptable to other kinds of problems. Vets can pinpoint problems now, where in the past it was chalked up to "old age". Canine medicine has come a long ways, just like human medicine.
