haying seems to be such a boom or bust thing. in SW Manitoba unless something drastic happens there will be a huge surplus of hay this year (again). A rancher can probably buy hay right now cheaper than he can grow it and bale it. When you sell it any distance away, of course freight kills you. A lot of guys have been putting up silage because it has a longer "shelf life". Most hay growers around here can also remember getting fewer bales than acres.
