Here's the cause, I think. A. You've not shut off the gas line "up-stream;" e.g., at the sediment bowl and/or; B. If you have turned it off, the shut-off valve is not functioning, so that gas continues to flow into the carb. and; C. The carb fills because the float has a hole in it or because it is stuck "down" and; D. Gas continues to flow/drain into the cylinders, and beyond. Thus, gas in oil.

Sound plausible?

Take the opportunity to clean up the tranny.
