VC Case governed rmp

I always thought that a 1940 VC case (F124 Continental) ran at a governed rmp of 1200. I have seen other applications, such as old fork lifts that will run at 1800 rmp. What is the correct rmp? Also, if it is NOT 1200, will it harm the motor to run at 1800? I use this for mowing, and while playing, ran it around 1800 for a short time. Wow, did that sucker mow.
