Interesting! I never baled one before, but this year on my first cutting, I managed to bale (small square bales) four - all bull snakes, and all chopped up pretty bad. Seems like a lot for only 3-1/2 acre hobby farm. I was able to grab the parts sticking out and pull at least some parts out. Three would have been in the 3+ ft. long range based on thickness and others I'm seeing around, and one was much smaller. Turned to check things while raking just in time to see one tossed, then when baling, got those four - they're the ones sticking out that I saw - wonder how many the folks feeding that hay will find - Mon, Dad and four daughters, so warned them that they might find snakes or parts of snakes! :) We had record hot temperatures (around and over 100) the week I hayed, following a damp spring. The ground was still holding a lot of moisture and cool at night. I figured that the combination must have made crawling under a windrow in the heat of the day a pretty good idea to a snake! Too bad - enough mice, gophers and ground squirrels around that I hate to lose any snakes. Chuck, WA
