Definitely get an owner's manual. Reprints are available at most tractor supply stores and on the internet for about $12. The reprinted manual is the 1950 version and covers the side mount distributor model. Your 1949 is a front mount distributor so you might want to look for an earlier edition. They come up on ebay fairly often. Price is usually in the $15 - $25 range depending on condition. In addition to an owner's manual, most people seem to like the I&T Shop Manual, publication # FO-4. Those again are available at lots of places (even this website). The editions of the owners manual that I know of are: Form 3729-47-G July 1947 Form 3729-48-A January 1948 Form 3729-48-H August 1948 Form 3729-49-C March 1949 Form 3729-49-H August 1949 and December 1949 Form 3729-50-F June 1950 Form 3729-50-M December 1950 (also in reprint) Form 3729-51-K 1951 Form 3729-52-C 1952

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
