Not sure about the welder but some two cylinder motorcycles I have owned used both ends of the coil, one end to each plug. Cylinders didn't fire at the same time but the cylinder that wasn't on the firing stroke didn't care if the plug fired. Pull either plug wire and it won't run at all.
