Excellent methods, and it will work that way. The only thing I might add is that once all remains of the old pipe are gone, you can heat the inside of the female portion with a torch to help get rid of the carbon and rust build-up in the threads. I have used this method on several Farmall manifolds, I still like to chase the threads with a pipe tap, but getting rid of that carbon makes the tapping go a lot easier. DO NOT try tapping while the manifold is still hot, it has a tendency to make the pipe tap get really stuck.
