There are places where all the trees were cut and wetlands were drained. They are envied as the most productive food-producing acres in the world. They feed people. Southern Minnesota, west of MPLS, used to be known as The Big Woods. Farms were carved out of the wilderness. Typical soil types in many areas are Nicollet and Webster- same as in Iowa's productive regions. But since all food comes from the store, people far removed from the source don't see the value of a farmer improving his property.
