just my 2 cents. the ford overhead cam v-8 engines have guide problems which cause a lot of oil consumption and smoke at take off once they reach operating temperture. dont take my word for it, just check them out at stop lights and stop signs. vickies, mercs, and lincolns, same engine. almost all are 70,000 + miles. had 2 mercurys as company cars.
