most if not all two cycles will run CW or CCW. But you have to make sure the oil pump is running in the right direction. Not sure on the 871 but the 671 the front and back of the engine are the same, so you can build them ever which way you like!A lot of detroits have been ruined by a driver stalling out on a hill, truck rolls backwards, and they let the clutch out, starting the engine and because the oil pump is running in reverse they burn the engine up!
