Go to briggsandstratton.com with your model number and can find parts breakdown for your engine. Earlier twins had a few different types of alternators under the flywheel but I don't know about the 26HP but parts will tell you. You'll need a volt meter to check the output. Several of the discount chain stores carry the B&S engine repair manual CD and you can a more extensive one from local small engine dealer.
