Many of those type engines have alternator windings under the flywheel and its a flywheel magnet passing by them that induces voltage in the series of coils. Then they have a rectifier block somewhere on the exterior to convert the AC into DC to charge the battery. Often when they stop charging its cuz the rectifier block goes bad,,,,,,or an alternaotr coil winding might open,,,, or else there are wiring or fuse issues.
