I had a 1991 Ford Ranger. I had the same problem, brand new battery, put on a new starter, and cleaned the cables. Still turn the key and starter would click, wouldn't even jump start. Cut off the positive cable terminal end, cut it open and found that it was corroded inside. Put on a $2 terminal and good for another 150,000 miles. I know of about another 10 people that have had the same problem.
