Auto parts stores have these tools in plastic. Suggest you take a clutch disc and see if you can find a tool that will line up with the splines, maybe take the pilot bearing. I don't claim to be a mechanic, but once I put a clutch in a 56 GMC truck. The procedure as I recall to do it without a lineup tool was to put the transmission part of the way in, leaving the clutch a little loose. Went in from the side and turned the clutch with a screwdriver and tightened the attaching bolts from the side, moving the transmission a little to get the shaft lined up. I probably have the details wrong and it might not work on the 444 anyway.
