I would keep the tank for the peace of mind it will give.Someday there could be a shortage of gasoline again.Either paint the top of the tank white or better yet,construct a heat shield out of sheet metal roofing and mount it a couple or three inches above the tank.That will give a chimney effect and keep the gasoline evaporation to a minimum.
