Oil filters

I recall many years ago reading in Hot Rod magazine an interview with one of the pro drag racers. He said he always used Lee filters because they were the best cheap filter and also the best filter. His opinion, right or wrong. It has been years since I saw a Lee filter. The part numbers on Purolator look somewhat similar to the Lee numbers as do the filters themselves. I do know that Wix makes filters for many other brand names, particularly NAPA. Anyone know what happened to Lee?
