Yep, it's not a new quiet 2006 beamer. They made some noise. The D had gear reduction drive off clutch in reduction cover on clutch side driving to straight cut trans gears that drive through a differential to chain drive large bull gears on the axles. Take the plug out on trans top cover and measure with a rod or stick to see if you have at least 6 1/2" of oil in trans which = about 7 gallons. That would be the proper level if your D goes about 4 mph in 3rd gear and has 41 tooth gears. If it goes faster than 4 mph in 3rd gear you could have 35 or 28 tooth sprockets and need oil 7-8" deep or 8-10 gallons. If it has industrial gears and goes even faster like 10-12 mph add even more oil and take cover off to be sure gears with chains are running in oil. If oil looks milky or black like tar change it and that might quiet things down too. Water settles at the bottom of trans so pull the drain plug sometimes to drain off water after tractor has been sitting for a while. Hopefully you inherited a manual with it too?
