i have a desktop with a amd athlon cpu for several years without problems. changing cpu's does cost $$$ for motherboards and other hardware, another laptop with the different cpu would be cheaper. celuron cpu is not as good as a pentium, i don't think, but would be ok on most applications. just my 2 cents worth
