Dont bet on a 6v charger charging an 8 volt battery. If the charger has selenium rectifiers that are weak the voltage output drops off.Open circuit voltage readings are meaningless.A flash lite cell that reads 1.25 volt on a meter can drop to zero when a bulb is added to the circuit.Bulb life is greatly reduced when voltage runs higher than rated voltage. 5 inch 6v sealed beams can cost 14.00 each.Better not use lights if you are fooling with an 8v battery.Your generator is at risk as you are making it put out increased wattage.10 amps at 7v equals 70 watts.10 amps at 10v equals 100 watts.
