I had to jump in on this one.... I've installed 8 volt batteries in several pieces of equipment over the years, including model A Fords. They can be ordered at any battery outlet and the cost is comparable to a 6 volt. They will crank faster than the 6 volt and the generator WILL recharge them usually without any adjustments. Why? Because a 6 volt generator puts out about just over 8 volts. It HAS to in order to charge. Normally any light bulbs do NOT have to be changed. If anything, they're a little brighter. These 8 volt cells were designed specifically to improve the cranking characteristics of 6 volt systems without massive changes to the existing equipment and they've been around for years. Changing to 12 volts for real world use is a good idea, but if you want to leave your "antique" system in place the 8 volt battery would be the way to go. I wouldn't be afraid to make the change. Have someone that knows how to use a voltmeter (multimeter) check the output voltage of your generator. Adjust to the battery manufacturer's recommendation if necessary (usually not). George

My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
